March 14, 2007

 

  1. Attendence:  Dodgers, Red Sox, Orioles, Cardinals, Tigers, Brewers, Astros, Braves, A’s, Royals, Indians, Marlins, Pirates

Absent:  White Sox

  1. Approved the minutes from February 15, 2007 meeting
  2. Treasurers report - all bills from prior year have been paid.  Cash in bank $17,807
  3. Ethics committee – nothing to report
  4. Old business
    1. By-law changes – none
    2. Discussed umpires with Mac.  Some umpires do not want to do our league.  We discussed getting a letter out to umpires to inform them better of our league to hopefully spur interest in having more umpires being interested in doing our games.
    3. Rules changes (continued from last meeting

                                                               i.      Discussed rule changes as marked in red text on revised rules.

                                                             ii.      Covered sections D through J.

                                                            iii.      Discussed courtesy runner rule

1.      2 runners, must be in writing on the line-up card

2.      can use one runner for an injury incurred during the game so long as the 2 runners have not been previously used up

                                                           iv.      Discussed and voted regarding potentially changing the number of innings pitchers allowed to pitch.  Vote was taken to change the rule to limit pitchers to pitching 6 innings in a day.  Voting results 4 yes and 8 no, failed.

 

    1. Rules will be re-printed as final for approval the next meeting
    2. A discussion ensued about what constitutes a twilight league for purposes of the league rules.  Al Livingston commented that the Tigers needed to be careful that they will have three twilight league players on their roster this year as one player had three at bats in a game in the last three years.  Mike Sawyer also commented that a few years back Kevin Smith was counted as a twilight league player when he played for the Cardinals as he had pitched 1/3 of an inning in a twilight league game.

    1. Schedule/home games night/games – Jim Doran passed out the home game schedule (no dates or fields, just team assignments) and discussed how teams were selected to play each other
    2. Discussed that the Falmouth Legion field is available to us at $50 per game, night or day game – same fee
    3. All-Star game – discussed having the Twilight league all starts play an all star team from our league
    4. 35+ league

                                                             ii.      Frozen ropes offering hitting on Wednesday nights 8-10 for $10

1.      SMMBL players can play free if willing to work the fields (offer limited based on need for workers)
